SHIP OF FOOLS
Available in PDF
While talking to a good friend of mine about the mess that America and our world is in,
he said that it reminded him of a book or movie called ‘the ship of Fools.’ My mind immediately began to work. I went
to the internet and did a search for “Ship of Fools” and found that the name came from ancient times and many people
have written books, plays and even songs using that title. So, what I am embarking upon is not something new, but something
that I believe should be approached from a decidedly Christian view point.
From Wikopedia: “The ship of fools is an allegory that has long been a fixture in Western literature and art. The allegory depicts
a vessel populated by human inhabitants who are deranged, frivolous, or oblivious passengers aboard a ship without a pilot, and seemingly ignorant of their own direction. This concept makes up the framework of the 15th century book Ship of Fools (1494) by Sebastian Brant, which served as the inspiration for Bosch's famous painting, Ship of Fools: a ship—an entire fleet at first—sets off from Basel to the paradise of fools. In literary and artistic compositions of the 15th and 16th centuries, the cultural motif of the ship of fools also served to parody the 'ark of salvation' as the Catholic Church was styled.”
The previous illustration and synopsis serve to illustrate the spiritual mindset of our 21st Century world and the lawless, godless generation that is our society today.
“The God Rejector”
You will find many categories of “fools” on this ship of fools. In the following booklet we will endeavor to identify some of these categories. God tells us in His word that men and women who reject Him and His word, either openly or by their ignorance of Him are fools.
chief Musician, A Psalm of
David. The fool hath said in his heart,
There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works,
there is none that doeth good.
The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were
any that did understand, and
seek God. They are all gone aside, they are
all together become filthy:
there is none that doeth good,
no, not one.
Several years ago Mr. John Nyquist wrote a
great article for World Net Daily (wnd.com) which he entitled “The
Intelligent Idiot.” It
endeavored to bring to light some of the oxymoronic activities of our world. In
the short article he included the ridiculous amalgamation of the rock music
industry and so-called ‘Christian’ lyrics. Mr. Nyquist called this
“ingenious stupidity”. Here are some
of his comments,
“As noted earlier, an ingenious stupidity -- to
be truly ingenious -- must strike at the fabric of our existence.
Another example of brilliant idiocy is the way
some older people have begun to follow young people. This is an incredible
reversal. A few months ago a leading senator, running for president, gave out
the name of an outrageous rock band as his favorite musical group. As usual he
had no idea what he was saying, but he wanted to be cool, he wanted to be
up-to-date. This is called "finding the parade and getting in front." An
egregious blockhead once described this technique as "the Taoist model of
leadership." Under this model a leader is merely the first to follow. In other
words, there is no leadership.
The same logic appears in the churches, where
popular rock music is gradually supplanting traditional sacred music.
Admittedly, rock 'n' roll is entertainment for millions of people, but is there
anything worshipful about it? In this context the late Alan Bloom wrote that
"rock music has one appeal only, a barbaric appeal, to sexual desire ...
undeveloped and untutored." Bloom added that young people know "that rock has
the beat of sexual intercourse." Let us be honest about this. The music that
emerged from the '60s has an inner logic that corresponds to the sexual
revolution of that time. There is nothing accidental here. To take this same
music and use it in the worship of God is questionable.
ministers, who think of themselves as conservatives, see nothing questionable
here. The argument is that the church must appeal to young people in order to
survive. Therefore, the church must offer the kind of music young people favor.
But if the function of the church is to collect worshippers by pandering to
popular taste, why not have standup comics deliver sermons? Why not go all the
way, and make the worship experience as entertaining as possible? The churches
would then be filled up, quite readily -- with nothing to distinguish them from
movie theaters and rock concerts.”
This is just what I have
been saying for years. If all we want is for our churches to be full why not
bring in topless waitresses and serve cocktails? The bars are full of “egregious
blockheads” who have given themselves over to the fulfillment of the desires
of the flesh. Mr. Nyquist’s brilliant article however, fails to get the real
reason for the “brilliant stupidity”
of the “educated herd” as they thunder
toward the cliff of destruction. However, I digress from my analogy of the
“ship of fools.” The real reason that
the “ship of fools” keeps on getting
more and more deranged is that they refuse to follow the directions of the One
Who gave Himself for their sins.
The Bible has the guidelines
that humankind must follow, but mankind continues to follow the mob to folly and
eventual complete collapse of our world including America.
For the invisible things of him from the
creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are
made, even his eternal power and
Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they
glorified him not as God,
neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish
heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
The following quote
ostensibly came from a highly influential person in Europe. I was unable to
trace or verify the statement, but it sure gets to the point of what is wrong
with our country.
"The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting an inexperienced man like him with
the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary
common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president.
The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America.
Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.
The Republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him
This nation previously elected an ungodly profligate as President who actually had illicit, ungodly sexual relations in the Oval Office.
He was elected not once but twice. We came extremely close to electing a politician, who actually thinks that he invented the internet and
that the warming of the earth is caused by man, to this office. Barak Hussein Obama was elected, not once but twice, by a majority of voters.
How could the voting public in America believe that these men could have or should be leaders of the free world? It can only be that the vast
majority of voters in our country can no longer distinguish between good and evil.
Hebrews 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses
exercised to discern both good and evil.
The reason that America can no longer distinguish between good and evil is because we as a people and as a nation have officially said NO to
God. In 1962 the Supreme Court of the United States officially declared that it was a violation the US Constitution to pray in schools. Within
just a few years, the Bible was rejected by the SCOTUS. Just a short time later the Ten Commandments were declared to be a threat to school
children and were ordered to be removed from the schools of America. When a person or a nation rejects God, He rejects them, and then they
no longer have wisdom. Indeed, God's word is correct when it says, "The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God..." Those who reject
God will experience the judgment of God. The writer of the previously quoted article used the expression, “a vast confederacy of fools.”
What just exactly does this mean? Mr. Webster defines the word, confederacy as,
“A league, or covenant; a contract between two or more persons, bodies of
men or states, combined in support of each other, in some act or enterprise;
mutual engagement; federal compact.
The friendships of the world are oft confederacies in vice. A confederacy of
princes to check innovation.”
Note that one aspect of this
definition is that there is a league, or covenant or a contract between two or
more persons. In the case of recent elections there were over 60 million people
all across the United States who as a “vast
confederacy of fools” may have plunged this nation into its death throes. No
matter the results of future elections in our country, it is a matter of
conjecture as whether we will be able to survive the demonic legislation which
has been and will be enacted to drown our beloved country in socialism and
despotism. The legacies of Presidents Carter and Clinton still haunt us today. I
personally do not see that it is the will of the majority of the people of
America to embrace the God of the Bible, Jesus Christ the Lord. Yet, history and
the word of God are clear, the individual and the nation that reject God are
For the nation and kingdom that will not serve
thee shall perish; yea, those
nations shall be utterly wasted.
I pray that I am wrong, but the word
of God is very clear, and it is absolutely reliable and trustworthy.
Note that Mr. Webster included in his
definition this comment, “The friendships
of the world are oft confederacies in
vice. A confederacy of princes to check innovation.”
Evangelist Sammy Poole wrote these words,
What a tangled web we wove,
our land the Lord we drove;
As our world around us begins to fall,
Folk asked, "Where God was through it all?"
His answer came with pained chagrin,
'You told me to 'leave' ~ Not 'to come in;'
That you were 'big enough to handle your
You had no need for Me I took
you at your word, you see,
You were 'big now, and 'didn't need me;'
stood there watching the 'big boy' fall,
Waiting, once more, for you to
call. And in spite of all your pride and sin,
I'm ever-present ~ as I have
So, humble yourself beneath my hand;
I will hear from
heaven, and heal your land. Remember
this time, with all its woes,
And learn the 'truth' a "Big Boy" knows;
I am God, and I hear the pleas,
Of child, or nation, on its knee

that must be defined is the word “fools.” It is the plural of the word
“fool.” What is a “fool?” God says in
His word, that a “fool” is one who
rejects God. That is precisely the meaning of the Scriptures.
Psalm 14:1, and 53:1 both reiterate
this definition. Why would a person reject God and His existence? All the
evidence that a rational person needs is available. There is no real evidence
for evolution, yet foolish men embrace it as scientific fact.
“Fools rush in where wise men never go”
are words from an old love song, but never were words more true concerning
living a life without God and His word. The decisions made by our legislators
backed up by –some of the nine black robed
‘priests of Baal’ called the Supreme Court have done more to destroy our
country than any external threat could ever cost. The vast majority of the
people in our nation today, including the courts, are
‘clever blockheads’ when it comes to
understanding God. Yes, there is a vast confederacy of fools that exists in
America. It is a people without God in their lives who have embarked upon a
voyage of destruction – “A Ship of
